The Mayan calendar may be counting down to the last day on Dec. 21st, but it will be a festival evening anyway. A Jazz festival that is. The Barr Sinister Jazz Group and the Northport Jazz Band will play live Holiday Jazz After Hours in the Sky Room Cafe to benefit the Vic Skolnick Life of the Cinema Campaign to support the Cinema Arts Centre’s programs, operations and to help purchase digital projection equipment for the three CAC theaters, December 21 at 9:45pm to midnight at Cinema Arts Centre, 423 Park Ave, Huntington. 631-423-7610.
It doesn't matter if the Mayan Calendar is right or not, this is going to be a fun filled evening with some great jazz music and all for a good cause. The suggested $10 entrance fee is in place to help the Cinema Arts Centre purchase some much needed equipment. Entering into its 40th year of activity and community service, the CAC faces an extraordinary challenge. In addition to raising vital funds for programs and operations, CAC must also raise funds to equip three theaters with digital projection equipment.
Since motion pictures will only be produced in digital quality, the Centre needs to raise over $186,000 in order to stay current with technology and provide the community with a great service. The fully tax-deductible contributions will allow the Centre to continue to present high-quality film programs and special events, offer the Film Arts in Education program to thousands of public school students each year, and purchase the digital projection equipment needed to keep operating.
If you were planning on celebrating the end of the world with a bang, why not come to the Holiday Jazz After Hours at the Sky Room Cafe for a wonderful evening with others from Long Island.
