It has been announced that the 2012 Great Neck Arts Center Gala, carrying the title, “Celebrate the Arts,” will be happening on Wednesday, October 24th at Oheka Castle, 135 West Gate Drive in Huntington, NY with a cocktail reception, silent auction, dinner, award presentations, and performances beginning at 6pm.
This year's Gala is bound to be a wonderful event. Among the honored guests are Great Neck businessman Michael T. Lamoretti who will be the headline honoree, with Congressman Gary Ackerman receiving the first Honorary “Founders Award” at the community’s annual celebration of the arts in Great Neck. KT Sullivan is this year’s Artist Of Distinction in Music with famed Author Nelson DeMille set to receive The Arts Center’s “Gold Coast Legend Award”.
Mr. Lamoretti, who will be named The Arts Center’s “Man of the Year,” has been involved with the Long Island community for more than 20 years. During this time he has been the vice president of real estate operations for Great Neck based United Capital Corp. Lamoretti has been an active member of the community. He serves on many boards and committees, including one that he says is dear to his heart, The Great Neck Arts Center. About the center, the businessman says, “The Arts Center is a tremendous asset to our community and beyond. It serves more than 15,000 underprivileged children and adults throughout Long Island at little or no cost to them and their families."
Another one of the Gala's special honorees, Mr. Demille, Mr. DeMille, is set to receive The Arts Center’s Gold Coast Legend Award. He is the author of numerous award-winning novels that are routinely make their way to the top of best-seller lists. His first major work, By the Rivers of Babylon, was published in 1978 and is still in print. Among his other works are Cathedral, Word of Honor, The Charm School, The Gold Coast, The General’s Daughter, Plum Island, Wild Fire, and The Gate House, and many others.
