Today, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced the launch of a new webstore to support tourism in New York. The webstore will offer clothing and other merchandise featuring the classic “I Heart NY” logo. The logo’s design originated in 1977 when Milton Glaser created it to help with tourism branding for the state. According to the governor, the logo is “one of the most beloved and recognized symbols representing the Empire State in the world. With the launch of this exciting new online store, we are taking our promotional efforts to the next level.”
Along with the classic “I Heart NY” logo, the store will also sell variations which feature themes like LGBT, biking, camping, golfing, and wine tasting. Each item which is shipped out will include “Did You Know” facts and statistics, which will help to spread knowledge about NY state and tourism across the globe. Through a special arrangement with the NFL and the Buffalo Bills, the collection will also include Buffalo and Buffalo Bills themed merchandise. “This new line of merchandise provides another opportunity for domestic and international travelers to love New York,” stated Gavin Landry, Executive Director of Empire State Development’s Division of Tourism.
