GOOD SHEPHERD HOSPICE HONORS THE KERLEY FAMILY
AT ANNUAL REFLECTIONS RECEPTION
Melville, NY - Good Shepherd Hospice welcomed Magee Hickey to the microphone at the Annual Reflections Reception honoring the Kerley Family on March 8, 2012 at Captain Bill’s Bay View House in Bay Shore. Serenaded and entertained by Ms. Hickey and her musical accompanist, pianist Ricky Reitzel, guests of Good Shepherd Hospice enjoyed a multitude of passed hors d’eouvres and food stations.
Good Shepherd Hospice was honored to have 16 members of the Kerley Family present, coming from various locations all over Long Island, where they were each presented with a crystal Good Shepherd Hospice Circle of Friends Award. For 18-going-on-19 years, the Kerley Family has supported Good Shepherd Hospice with a golf outing fundraiser in memory of patriarch Arthur Kerley. The Good Shepherd Hospice Inpatient Center is home to the Arthur Kerley Memorial Tree of Life, in recognition of their efforts to support our mission. Without such devotion, Good Shepherd Hospice would be unable to provide the type of care to our patient’s and their families that we strive for everyday. The Honorable Angie M. Carpenter, Suffolk County Treasurer, presented a proclamation to the family as a whole in recognition of the many years the Kerley’s have supported Good Shepherd Hospice.
The Good Shepherd Hospice Annual Reflections Reception will benefit the Child Life Program of Good Shepherd Hospice, an extension of the existing bereavement department. Exposure to the death of a loved one is a painful experience for children and usually requires intervention to explore and facilitate expression of feelings and questions about loss and tragedy. Child Life Specialists use their knowledge of child development to educate, prepare and support children through difficult times. Good Shepherd Hospice will be transforming space at theGoodShepherdHospiceInpatientCenter located in Port Jefferson to be more conducive to therapy through play and recreational activities.
