Before Hurricane Sandy came upon the shores of Long Island and let us know the fury of Mother Nature, the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Islip held their annual ball. This annaul ball, dubbed 'Celebrate Excellence', was held on October 26th with more than 430 guests in attendance. This was a tremendous night where people were able to enjoy an evening of fun, laughter, good food and great entertainment.
To mark the 50th Good Samaritan Gala and usher in the next 50 years, this year’s event included a change of venue. The stellar black tie affair was moved to Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, including cocktails, dinner and dancing to The East Coast Band. The 2012 Gala Honoree was Babylon resident Theresa P. Santmann, a health care advocate, entrepreneur, and philanthropist.
While taking the stage, Ms. Santmann let everyone know who special the medical center is to her. “I will be forever grateful to Good Samaritan Hospital and its dedicated physicians, nurses and staff. I am especially indebted to Dr. Robert Schick, one of the hospital’s founding physicians, who is here this evening, for the stellar care given to my husband when diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease. He and so many talented physicians have provided invaluable care to patients for more than 50 years."
This year over $450,000 was raised to support The Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation, with proceeds to benefit trauma services through new equipment, renovated facilities, and expanded programs and staff training. Also, as a part of the proceedings, Good Samaritan's made it know their incredible vision for the future. Good Samaritan Hospital will apply to the American College of Surgeons Commission on Trauma with the goal of becoming one of New York State’s first hospitals to receive the ACoS’ coveted Trauma Designation.
Good Samaritan's Medical Center of West Islip has one of the busiest emergency hospitals in Long Island and helps hundreds of thousands of people each year with great care and innovative technologies. This 50th Annual Ball was a great success and the proceeds are sure to go towards continuing this great tradition of excellence.
