West Islip, NY – Three healthcare heroes who have dedicated more than 70 years of service to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center were nominated for recognition inLong Island Business News Health Care Heroes Awards. Dmitriy Vaysman, MD, Bruce Litwack and Gail Sullivan were awarded in the physician, healthcare professional and volunteer hero categories respectively at a breakfast on November 27, at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury.
As Director of Good Samaritan’s pediatric sleep program, Dr. Vaysman was recognized for his role in facilitating the opening of the sleep center in the Center for Pediatric Specialty Care in 2007. In addition to receiving Good Samaritan’s Physician of the Quarter for his role in providing care to a young patient with pulmonary failure for the past several years, he serves as a mentor to the residents and offers one-on-one education. He is also an active volunteer for several important causes related to children’s health and well-being.
Administrative Director of Emergency Medicine Bruce Litwack was recognized for his devoted service to the community. As a firefighter/EMT and member of Good Samaritan and St. Catherine of Siena—members of Catholic Health Services, he has consistently put others before himself. His knowledge in emergency management and disaster planning makes him an invaluable member of the Long Island hospital community. In addition, he is a supporter of local community functions and regularly interacts with the town, county and state government to ensure that the community he serves receives the highest level of health care and is prepared in the event of any emergency.
Since 1982, Chair of Good Samaritan’s Mission & Ministry committee Gail Sullivan has lived in the Village of Babylon, raised three sons, succeeded in business and became involved with volunteer work. In addition to her work as a member and past president of the Guilds of Good Samaritan, she has been active in St. Joseph’s Church and Babylon Rotary. She has been recognized for her more than 30 years of volunteer service at Good Samaritan and exemplifying the mission of the organization on a daily basis.
Health Care Hero Awards honor individuals and organizations in the health care industry in Nassau and Suffolk Counties who epitomize the spirit embodied in the word HERO. The goal of this award program is to recognize excellence, promote innovation, contribute to the enhancement of the value and quality of health care and, ultimately, recognize the men, women and organizations whose tireless work, contributions and dedication to healing and caring ensure the well-being of everyone on Long Island.
