West Islip, NY - On April 4, Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center hosted a free wellness symposium, “A Healthy Serving of Knowledge,” offered through its Good Sam University Free Community Lecture Series, at Captain Bill’s Restaurant in Bay Shore. Two hundred guests attended their choice of workshops which offered such information as stress management practices and how to read food labels. Participants uncovered the truth about diet foods and weight-loss plans including a discussion on surgical options for weight loss.
The program included presentations on the concepts of bioindividuality and the importance of creating a personalized diet plan by Chef Keith DiLauro (pictured on left), a graduate of the French Culinary Institution in New York City, and WCBS-TV health reporter Katie McGee (pictured on right). The program concluded with a cooking demonstration and tasting of Chef Keith’s delicious and healthy fare of seasonal, local, fresh and organic foods.
