One of the ways that people can become more aware of the problem of heart disease and good health is to be better educated. This past Friday, Feb. 1st, Good Samaritan Hospital, in West Islip, held a Healthy Heart Awareness Event through the American Heart Association and their Go Red for Women Initiative. This was an education and awareness event to help kick-off their month of health awareness month.
During the event, which was very well done, more than 150 community members and staff attended, receiving free screenings, nutrition information, cardiac related demonstrations, informational fliers, giveaways and healthy snacks.
Good Samaritan Hospital has always been a leader in helping the people in the community of Long Island live a much healthier life. They have also held several events as well as make available a tremendous opportunity for women through Good Sam University. This 580+ bed facility also includes 100 nursing home beds as they continue to be committed to caring for the people in their commhnity through their elderly years.
The medical center, which has more than 4,500 employees and almost 900 physicians on staff, had nearly 30,000 patient admissions and more than 95,000 emergency department visits in 2011. Good Samaritan is a member of Catholic Health Services of Long Island.
