Little elves, disguised as Brownies, from Girl Scout Troop#1951 of St. James, delivered bags filled with seasons greetings to St. Catherine ofSienaMedicalCenter, for a very special unit. The 15 Brownies decorated each bag by hand and filled them with cozy socks and healthy snacks for special delivery to patients in the Psychiatry Department on Christmas Day.
Moved by the Brownies act of kindness, St. Catherine’s Nurse Manager of Psychiatry Barbara B. O’Neill, RN, expressed, “Although we should be inspired everyday to be compassionate for the less fortunate and infirmed, let it at least be at Christmas that we are moved to be generous, sensitive and open-hearted.” As a former girl scout herself, she shared that “girl scouting encourages young girls to always put their best foot forward to serve not only their country but their local communities as well.”
“I felt proud of myself to be able to make someone else happier during Christmas,” stated Brownie member Rachel Amato. Fellow Brownie member Hailey Sheridan also shared that “It’s fun being a girl scout, because we get to help people a lot.”
