Baldwin, NY - August 3, 2014 - Freeport Medical Supply, Inc. /Xtra Care Pharmacy, in partnership with the American Diabetes Association, will hold its 2nd Annual Community Walk to Stop Diabetes and Health Fair on Sunday, August 10, 2014 from 8 AM – 4 PM at 75 S. Main St, Freeport, NY 11520.
Dubbed “Get Fit and Be Healthy,” the Walk will be headlined by Sabrina Gardner, Founder of Diabetes and Health Wellness Academy of N.Y.C. and Gail Lewis, host of popular local TV shows Communication Corner and Cooking with Gail as grand marshal and emcee.
The Walk, which will begin at 75 South Main Street in Freeport, and continues westward on Pine Street for several blocks and back, will be followed by a health fair, with free medical screenings performed by health care practitioners. There will be entertainment, provided by reggae artist Yanks and other performers. Refreshments will be provided as well, courtesy of Panera Bread and Bagel Boss.
“With more than 20 million people suffering from Diabetes and nearly 40 million with Pre-Diabetes cases, it has become our aspiration here at Freeport Medical Supply Inc. /Xtra Care Pharmacy for future generations to live in a world without the threat of this disease,” said founder Dr. Chuck Madu. “In order to help make a difference we are taking “steps” and raising money to be used in the fight to prevent, develop a cure, and improve the lives of those affected with diabetes.”
Dr. Madu continues, “This year the ‘Get Fit and Be Healthy’ goal is to engage the entire family in an effort to make a difference in today’s youth by providing awareness. We are proud to be partnering with South Nassau Communities Hospital and other practitioners from our very own neighborhoods who will offer free health screenings for blood glucose, blood pressure, cholesterol levels and BMI (Body Mass Index).”
