One of the most important health screenings that a person can partake in is an oral cancer screening. This coming Friday, October 5th, you can do that for free. As part of the Nassau and Queens County Dental Societies’ public outreach and education program, the Belmont Race Track will be holding a free oral screening as a way of not only catching early signs of oral cancer, but also spread awareness of it.
This partnership between the New York Racing Association and the Nassau County Dental Society (NCDS), part of the American Dental Association (ADA), has been ongoing for more than 30 years. The focus of this partnership is to bring good oral health to the public.
In order to make this special screening happen, Nassau and Queens dentists, along with dental hygienists from Farmingdale State College will volunteer their time to provide these screenings. These screenings are free of charge to all attendees at Belmont Park Race Track. The public is encouraged to attend the screenings, which will take place indoors on the first floor Grandstand level. Parking is free and gate entry fee is just $3.00. The screenings will be held from 12 p.m. until 3:00 p.m
Dr. Robert Trager, Oral Cancer Awareness Chair, and Nassau County Dental Societ said, “It’s surprising to see the rise in oral cancer, especially among our younger population. People don’t realize the negative impact tobacco, and risky sexual behavior can have on their oral health. If we can save one life through these community screenings by detecting oral cancer in its early stages, we feel proud and pleased to have done so.”
Many people today do not realize the importance of having regular dental checkups with complete oral examinations. These full exams are essential in the early detection of any oral cancers.
