Fisher-Price Announces Elimination and Moving of Jobs

Fisher-Price announced on Wednesday that it is eliminating or moving around 100 jobs. This is part of the restructuring and reorganizing that is being done by parent company, Mattel, Inc. While most of the jobs are being relocated, some have been removed entirely, leaving an unspecified number of people out of work.

Most of the jobs will be reassigned to the headquarters in El Segundo, California and these employees have been offered relocation packages. Unfortunately, however, an unspecified number of employees received layoff notices. Most of the employees affected work at the East Aurora headquarters near Buffalo and the rest are in New York City.

Employees in toy design and development are not being affected in the restructuring, explained spokeswoman Brenda Andolina. “This is in no way a reflection of a skills deficiency. It’s a structural change, and we are sad to see the transition happen.”

The reorganization plan began by Mattel last year included a creation of a North America Division, based in El Segundo. These moves are part of this reorganization plan to help the company to work more closely with the retailers in both the Untied States and in Canada, said the company in a press release last year.
