What a beautiful sight! The Third Annual "Savvy Senior Day," presented by Long Island senior advocacy and resource group, Association of Generational Experts for Seniors (AGES), was a wonderful success as two of Long Island's own grandparents were crowned Senior King and Queen at the inaugural event.
As a way to celebrate our beloved grandparents, more than 100 families from around Long Island gathered together to see two wonderful people be crowned as king and queen. Eighty-two year old Peter Vannucci of Northport was crowned Long Island's first-ever Savvy Senior King alongside 74-year-old Sondra Rose of Cedarhurst, who was designated Savvy Senior Queen. The two donned robes and wore crowns while receiving gift certificates for professional studio portraits, complements of Bradford Renaissance Portraits.
Vanucci was very appreciative of the coronation. He siad, "It is a great honor to be named this year’s Savvy Senior King. There are so many seniors out there doing great things who deserve to be recognized and appreciated and I share this honor with all of them. What is so wonderful about Savvy Senior Day is that it reinforces the great camaraderie that we as seniors share with one another. We all experience a tremendous sense of solidarity and pride whenever any senior is celebrated."
Another big moment during the event was seeing 93-year-old Nassau County resident Michael Montelione, a veteran and Pearl Harbor survivor who is past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3211 of Hicksville, being recognized and awarded an American Legion commemorative challenge coin as well as an American Legion/American Flag cross flag from The American Legion Post 1066 Commander, Jack Hipp.
This wonderful event was held atThe American Legion Post 1066 in Massapequa, NY. There was a whole host of activities this night. Featured was food, music and entertainment. The royal carpet was rolled out for all seniors who were nominated for Savvy Senior over the summer, all of whom were awarded certificates of appreciation.
