First Fridays Series

May 4: Artist-in-Residence Presentation by Leonardo Gala

Presented by East End Arts

 (RIVERHEAD, NY, April 20, 2012) –– East End Arts is pleased to announce May’s installment of the First Fridays Arts-in-Community Series to be held on Friday, May 4 at 6PM at the East End Arts’ Carriage House, located behind the East End Arts’ Gallery, 133 East Main Street, Riverhead NY. At the Artist-in-Residence Presentation, current artist-in-residence, renowned pianist, composer, and MIDI and audio artist Leonardo Gala will discuss his work and process, as well as projects as Artist-in-Residence. Mr. Gala has instructed piano for over 30 years and has been exploring the art of composition both manually and digitally for nearly four decades. At the event, Mr. Gala will present Memento:mori, a new multi-media work composed for orchestral and electronic music instrument sounds. The theme of this new symphonic poem was derived from the current East End Arts Gallery Show La Morte, but sonically travels a full human life span – ultimately ending in the "next transition". Several exotic minor scales have been used in this work, as well as ancient Latin plain chant.
