Kosher food is commonly associated with those who are Jewish, but this weekend everyone has a chance to experience it through a fun event with a good cause. The first annual Long Island Kosher BBQ Championship will be held by Temple Beth Torah of Westbury on Sunday, June 10th. The event is open to the public and begins at 11am at Temple Beth Torah, located at 243 Cantiague Rock Road in Westbury. A full schedule is available on the event website. Free parking is also available at Cantiague Park.
The event is held in accordance to the ASBEE World Kosher BBQ Championship that has been running for over 20 years. The event will determine champions in various categories, including Best Brisket, Best Ribs and Best Beans.
Participants have a chance to enjoy good-old BBQ food, contests, and tournaments such as hot dog eating and kosher pickle eating. There will also be entertainment for children, such as an inflatable play area, air brush tattoos and other activities.
This year’s event is sponsored by Fairway Market and a number of other local businesses on Long Island. Certain proceeds from the event will go towards Long Island charities that offer hunger relief. It is also suggested that attendees bring two cans of healthy food to donate to charity in place of the no entrance fee. A list of desired food is indicated on the FAQ section of the event website. Charity groups to benefit from this event include Long Island Cares, the Interfaith Nutrition Network, Hatzilu, Rock CAN Roll and M’yad I’yad.
Enjoy a fun filled day of good food and entertainment on Long Island this weekend!
