(RIVERHEAD, NY, April 11, 2013) –– The East End Arts Gallery is pleased to announce the new juried, all media art show, Art & Science, at the East End Arts Gallery which will open with a reception on Friday, April 26, from 5 PM to 7 PM. This show will feature artwork that depicts the two very different – but very connected – concepts of art and science; guest juried by artist and science teacher Kryn Olson. At the reception, the public is invited to enjoy refreshments and meet the artists. The reception is a free event, open to the public. The show will run through June 14, 2013. The Art & Scienceshow is sponsored by Peconic Bay Medical Center and is in collaboration with the Long Island Science Museum. The East End Arts Gallery is located at 133 East Main Street in Riverhead, NY and open hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10 AM to 4 PM.
Guest juror Kryn Olson describes her development and process as a scientist and artist: “Raised in Michigan, surrounded by rolling farm fields and beautiful woods, I began exploring nature at a very early age. Learning to observe gave me the insight and knowledge of how things interact and work together. I still witness and observe life, internalizing it through all of my senses. I use my head and my gut, so that when I go to put an experience onto the canvas it is rearranged, recombined. I record moments, the beauty of a time witnessed. They are always as I experienced them-in color, filled with line and form.”
Gallery Director Jane Kirkwood encourages artists: “Art and science are as diverse as two things can be. One is more mechanical, the other more mystical – but in the twenty-first century, which is which? Try using both as your concept, or demonstrate one with the other.” Original works in all media that explore art and science may be submitted.
