Third Thursdays Series at Brecknock Hall, Presented by East End Arts
May 4: Artist-in-Residence Presentation by Leonardo Gala
Renowned Pianist, Composer, and MIDI & Audio Artist
(RIVERHEAD, NY, May 5, 2012) – East End Arts is pleased to announce May’s installment of the Third Thursdays Arts-in-Community Series at Brecknock Hall, located at One Brecknock Road, Greenport, to be held on Thursday, May 17 at 6:30 PM. East End Arts’ current Artist-in-Residence, renowned pianist, composer, and MIDI and audio artist Leonardo Gala will discuss his work and process, as well as projects as Artist-in-Residence. Mr. Gala will present Memento:mori, a new multi-media work composed for orchestral and electronic music instrument sounds. The theme of this new symphonic poem was derived from the current East End Arts Gallery Show La Morte, but sonically travels a full human life span – ultimately ending in the "next transition". Several exotic minor scales have been used in this work, as well as ancient Latin plain chant. The electronic music will be manipulated 'live' during the presentation. Mr. Gala has instructed piano for over 30 years and has been exploring the art of composition both manually and digitally for nearly four decades. This free event is open to the public. For more information about Leonardo Gala’s residency, visit: http://www.eastendarts.org/education/AIR2012-Gala.html.

The Long Island Community Foundation (LICF) is the Island’s community foundation, making grants to improve our region and helping donors with their philanthropy since 1978. LICF identifies current and future community needs, strengthen the Island’s nonprofit sector, encourage philanthropy, and, with generous donors, builds permanent endowments to address these needs. More than $130 million has been granted from hundreds of funds established by individuals, families, and businesses. LICF is a division of The New York Community Trust, one of the country’s oldest and largest community foundations. For more information, visit www.licf.org.
