EAST END HOSPICE HOSTS SANDACRES ANNUAL SUMMER GALA
Westhampton Beach, NY (July 10, 2012) — On June 30th over 600 guests clad in festive Hawaiian, in bright shirts and colors, bid on over 100 auction items, enjoyed playing their hands at the gambling tables, danced the night away, sipping the signature mai tai cocktails and enjoyed delectable food at the place to be – the East End Hospice annual summer gala Moonlight Luau at the Potts’ family’s private Sandacres estate in Quogue. All proceeds from the evening benefit East End Hospice.
Linda Filardi and Betsy Rowe served as co-chairs of the annual benefit. Bonnie Grice of Peconic Public Broadcasting served as Mistress of Ceremonies and Gordon A. Werner was presented with the 13th Annual Dorothy P. Savage Good Samaritan Award. Upon receiving his award, Gordon praised the East End Hospice team and said, “The true Good Samaritans are the volunteers and the nurses of East End Hospice and I accept this award on their behalf.”
Priscilla A. Ruffin, President & CEO, announced that Building the Dream, the capital campaign for the building of the EEH inpatient hospice facility, has raised over $5 million and the facility will break ground this fall. Nancy DeMatteis, a generous supporter of East End Hospice, encouraged others to join her in giving to the campaign.
The live auction raised significant funds with a membership to Hampton Hills Country Club, airfare and a stay in Ashford Castle in Ireland, and a Mazda Miata going to the highest bidders. In charitable form, Gene Warren, winner of the Ashford Castle stay, donated the trip back to East End Hospice and allowed for the second bidder to take the trip.
Camp Good Grief also benefited at the event, with attendees pledging to send 20 children to camp at $1,200 each. The aforementioned Camp Good Grief is a weeklong summer bereavement day camp open free of charge to any child who has experienced the loss of a parent or loved one. East End Hospice has run the camp since 1997 and last year helped 147 children cope with loss of a family member.
