On Monday, March 10th, Third Squad detectives in Hempstead reported that they had arrested a man from Dix Hills named Mark Savransky, age 54. Savransky was self-employed and ran a company called “Mortgage Modification Specialist.” His office in Carle Place supposedly assisted customers who wanted to apply for a mortgage modification with more affordable terms.
Savransky convinced his clients that during their three month trial, they would need to pay him, and he in turn would transfer their payments to the bank. During July 2013 and January 2014, he collected payments from homeowners who believed that their money was going to the bank. During that time, not only did Savransky steal their money, but he also caused them to fall further and further into debt. Finally, in February of this year, one of his victims discovered that their home was in foreclosure, and that no new payments had been received since June. The victim contacted the authorities, who discovered that Savransky had stolen $17,000 from his victims collectively over the time that he ran the scam. He was arrested and has been charged with Grand Larceny 3rd Degree. Authorities are advising that anyone in Nassau County who may have been a victim of Savransky call the Third Squad at 516-573-6354. Those in Suffolk should contact the Suffolk county police directly.
