Paul Forziano and Hava Samuels recently tied the knot, but they have been unable to start their newlywed lives together. Why? Because they are mentally disabled, and have been forced to live in two separate group homes three miles apart. The couple married on April 7. By July however, they may be able to be together, thanks to the East End Disability Associates and the group home which they run.
Speaking about the prospective move, Forziano’s mother Roseann told 1010 WINS that the couple was very excited when they found out about the offer from East End Disability Associates. Previously, the family challenged the decision by the current nonprofits housing the couple to keep them apart in a lawsuit. Speaking about the new sponsor, Roseann says, “They’re a little more progressive, they’re a little more flexible, they have a better attitude towards the change.” Roseann believes that by living together, the couple will be able to develop their relationship and their lives more than they ever could apart. “They’ve both grown very much from their relationship and I think being able to live together in a normal setting like a married couple will also continue to help them reach their potential.”
