The other week, reports circulated saying that Carlos Zambrano had signed on with the Long Island Ducks. As of Monday however, the Atlantic League’s team roster still didn’t list Zambrano. So did Zambrano sign on with the Ducks or not? Apparently, the issue is still up in the air. Zambrano has certainly discussed the possibility of signing with the team, and he did agree to a set of terms, but he has yet to actually put the agreement in writing and sign a contract.
What’s the holdup? Apparently Zambrano is still in talks with several other teams in the major league, apparently the Phillies being at the top of the list. The Phillies are strongly considering bringing Zambrano onboard, and last week he was close to signing a contract with that team instead of the Ducks. Zambrano would bring major league pitching experience to the Ducks, but the Ducks already have five pitchers with similar experience, most notably Dontrelle Willis. Hopefully within the coming weeks we will know for certain which route Zambrano is choosing to walk. Zambrano’s many temper tantrums have made it challenging for him to find a position this past year. Past teams have looked on him as both an asset and a liability.
