(Manorville, NY) — Devin Knox, a six-year-old from Medford, New York, was named the winner of the Long Island Game Farm Wildlife Park and Children’s Zoo’s red kangaroo naming contest. He came up with the name “Marlin,” which was chosen by the Game Farm’s staff. As the grand prize winner, Devin received a family season pass to the Game Farm, a Game Farm T-shirt and a bag of goodies, courtesy of the Game Farm.
There were four runners-up: Patrick Young, who came up with “Ziggy”; Charlie Palmaccio with “Roobert”; Anthony Mauro with “Ridley”; and Vicki Vuolo with “Kermit.” They will receive one free admission to the Game Farm.
This friendly new kangaroo is one and a half years old. The red kangaroo is the largest mammal native to Australia and the largest surviving marsupial in the world. Known for their beautiful short, red coat and long, pointed ears, the red kangaroo’s legs work just like a rubber band. Males like the one at the Game Farm can leap over 30 feet in just one jump.
