When it comes to cancer fund raising events, there are few, if any, that are larger than the 'Cycle for Survival' athletic fundraiser. On Saturday, February 2nd, nearly 700 participants in Roslyn, Long Island, joined the fight against rare cancers at the national, indoor team cycling event that raises money to fund rare cancer research led by Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Cycle for Survival is one of the fastest-growing athletic fundraising event and the only fundraising events dedicated to rare cancers as a whole. To date, Cycle for Survival has raised more than $24 million.
That is quite an achievement and something to be quite proud of. John Flaherty, former Yankees catcher and current YES television baseball announcer, and Dr. Richard Barakat, were there to present the fundraising total to date on behalf of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center today. Events also took place at founding partner Equinox clubs in Miami and San Francisco.
With so many other events going on around Long Island, it is great to see that there are also those events that make a tremendous difference, through charitable giving and team centered efforts, to battle this life taking disease. It was a great turnout with over 700 participants, and plenty of time for people to cycle and have fun for a great cause.
