ELIH FOUNDATION RecEives FundS IN MEMORY OF JOHN ROMANELLI
Greenport, NY - Cross Sound Ferry and members of the Romanelli family gathered at Eastern Long Island Hospital today to make a special presentation to the Eastern Long Island Hospital Foundation in memory of the late John Romanelli. The $14,000 donation was raised from Cross Sound Ferry’s annual Fireworks Benefit Cruise which took place on July 7th of this year. This will be the single largest donation ever made from the proceeds of the cruise, as the event raised a record $17,000 in 2012. The donation to the ELIH Foundation is in the name of John Romanelli, who passed away earlier this year after an accident at the Southold fuel supply company he owned. Besides owning Burt’s Reliable, Mr. Romanelli was a former Southold Town Councilman and was well known throughout the community for his kind nature and philanthropic activities. The remaining proceeds from the cruise will be donated as three $1,000 scholarships in 2013 for a graduating senior from each of the North Fork high schools - Greenport, Mattituck, and Southold. This represents an annual award given to a graduating senior from each school.
“Together with other donations received in memory of John, and this generous donation by Cross Sound Ferry—ELIH has half the funds needed to secure a lifesaving system called—Arctic Sun, a new Emergency Medical protocol endorsed by the American Hospital Association (AHA ) which calls for lowering the core temperature of certain cardiac patients,” states Paul J. Connor III. “ELIH is committed to raising the balance of the funds and dedicating the equipment in memory of John Romanelli,” he adds.
