Huntington, NY (September 18, 2012) – Stephen Labate, the Republican and Conservative candidate for U.S. Congress in New York’s 3rd District, blasted Congressman Steve Israel for voting against the National Security and Job Protection Act. This act would preserve defense spending if Congress cannot reach a budget deal this year and instead accepts sequestration. Sequestration would automatically cut $492 billion in defense spending.
“During a period, in which violent protests, across the Middle East and the murder of a U.S. diplomat inLibyahave shaken Americans, it is inconceivable that Congressman Israel would vote against a bill that would save our defense budget from being slashed,” said Labate. “Steve Israel is beholden to special interests and as a result, has forgotten the oath he took and the obligation he has to protect and defend the Constitution of theUnited States of Americaand her citizens,” continued Labate.
“If sequestration goes into effect, our military will be hallowed out to dangerous levels and our country made vulnerable to attack from enemies across the world,” explained Labate. He continued, “we are reminded that the world is as dangerous today as it was on September 10, 2001."
"Steve Israel is a career politician, who once again, is on the wrong side of the issue and chose party politics over doing what is right for our nation,” stated Labate.
