The U.S. Department of Energy, Greater Long Island Clean Cities Coalition, and Suffolk County will be hosting the Grand Opening of a new Compressed Natural Gas Station on Long Island

Westhampton Beach, New York - The U.S. Department of Energy, Greater Long Island Clean Cities Coalition, and Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone will be hosting the Grand Opening of a new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) station on Long Island. The station was funded by The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. A portion of GLICCC’s $15 million fund award from the U.S. Department of Energy (D.O.E.) was used for the project.

The station was built by the county and uses ANGI Energy Systems fueling equipment supplied by Engineered Energy Solutions. The station was designed by P.W. Grosser Consulting, and will be maintained and managed by Trillium. It will operate 24 hours per day, seven days a week, and will be open to the public. With a portion of the funding, Suffolk County retrofitted three plow trucks to run on CNG, adding to their existing fleet of 31 CNG vehicles.

In addition to the Gabreski Airport facility, Suffolk County has built a second ARRA funded CNG station, located at 97 Crooked Hill road in Commack, NY. Designed by P.W. Grosser Consulting, this station was built by the county using ANGI Energy Systems fueling equipment purchased off of a state contract. The station will be maintained and managed by Trillium, and will also be open to the public.

The total project cost will be $5,061,739, with the Department of Energy contributing $2,129,000 and Suffolk County accounting for $2,932,739 in cost share.
