On Christmas morning, the owner of Sky Tan, a tanning salon in Selden, discovered that an arsonist had torched his business. Surveillance cameras outside his property recorded footage of the arsonist hammering through the glass of the front window and entering the Sky Tan building. After he entered, he used gasoline to create a trail and poured it over the tanning beds. He then lit a match and walked away. Not only was Sky Tan’s interior destroyed, but the outside of the building and the neighboring business Cella Bagels were damaged as well.
The arsonist still has not been caught by cops. The owner, John Rose, believes that the fire started around 4 in the morning. He has stated that he believes the fire may have been set by a competitor. Sky Tan was a new business; it had only been open for 40 days before the arsonist lit it on fire. On his Facebook page, Rose posted, “It is going to take sometime to repair & rebuild the salon, but we ask our customers to stay positive, give us their prayers, and cooperate with us.” Most of the damage was from smoke and not fire, so the inside should be reparable. Rose also promised to contact all his customers with tanning packages to ensure that their needs are met.
