Chick-Fil-A, a fast food chain which makes chicken sandwiches and French fries, is considering opening up some restaurants on Long Island, and is currently looking into possible locations for new franchises. As of right now, there are no details on which counties the restaurant is considering moving into. Chick-Fil-A is well known for making fast food which is a caliber above many other fast food chains. Last year however, Chick-Fil-A became notorious for something other than its fast food, that being the political opinions and donations of the company’s president, Dan Cathy.
Last year it came to light that Cathy is vocally opposed to marriage equality, and that he had in fact made large donations to opposing groups. This led to LGBT rights groups boycotting the chain and social conservatives organizing Chick-fil-A “Appreciation Day” in response. While the company has made statements that its intent is not to “support political or social agendas,” and to “treat every person with honor, dignity and respect,” the statements have been unable to erase the taint left by last year’s events. As GLBT Service Network CEO David Limnick was reported telling Newsday, “I think on Long Island we have a separation of religion and taste.”
