Monday – Friday, June 25-29, 2012: 9-11am (ages 8-11); 1-3pm (ages 12 and older)
The Bridgehampton Historical Society has joined with the Charles Addams Foundation to bring a fun-filled cartooning workshop to children and young adults at the end of June. The workshop fulfills part of the mission of the Tee and Charles Addams Foundation, to share his artistic achievements through programs developed from the artist’s works and archives.
Charles Addams (1912-1988) was an American cartoonist mostly known for his darkly humorous Addams family characters. He began doodling at a young age and eventually contributed cartoons for his high school literary magazine. After college, his first cartoon appeared in The New Yorker in 1932 and were regularly featured afterwards. His cartoons were also featured in several magazines, dressed the cover of music albums, and even became the inspiration for television shows and films.
The Cartooning workshop will be an entertaining artistic outlet for children with a knack for doodling, helping them to refine that habit into a true artistic skill. In addition to the draw of the beach and outdoors, children will enjoy a few air-conditioned hours under the expert direction of local illustrator, Peter Spacek.
Workshops will be held at the BHHS Archives, 2539A Montauk Highway. Each session is $200 per person. Registration can be made by contacting the society at 631.537.1088, or bhhs@optonline.net.
