In theUnited Statesalone, more than 340,000 people learn that they have an abnormal heart rhythm each year. If left untreated, this can cause fainting, shortness of breath, and even death. St. Catherine Of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown provides some of the most advanced cardiac care for abnormal cardiac rhythms (also known as cardiac electrophysiology) in the region. With advanced technology, physicians can now re-create a 3-dimentional model of the heart in real-time. This “mapping” technology is able to determine the origin of the fast heart beats and determine if it is safe to treat.
