Senate Republican leader Dean Skelos and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silber promoted scholarship opportunities for those children who were affected by Sandy during a shared press conference on Tuesday.
Children from families that were affected by Superstorm Sandy in New York and New Jersey have the opportunity to attend summer camp for free due to a program that was first created after 9/11. The American Camp Association is offering hundreds of scholarships to over 90 different day and sleepover camps. This is a wonderful opportunity for children to spend some time healing from the effects of the storm.
The association’s “Heal the Children” program was first created after the terrorist attacks in 2001 to offer summer camp scholarships to those children from families affected by the attacks. This very needed program is one that helped those children during their difficult time and is helping our children during their time of upheaval.
To be eligible for the Sandy summer camps, your household income must be $90,000 or less, you must have lost your primary residence for 90 days, or you must have had your income cut in half at least.
For more information about this program, families should contact the American Camp Association through its website or by calling (212) 391-5208.
