On Tuesday morning, a tour bus collided with a pickup truck on Long Island, killing one person and injuring two others. The Coach USA bus was fortunately carrying only a single passenger when the pickup truck lost control and collided with it head-on. Following the initial collision with the truck, the bus then slammed into a tree. The driver of the truck was pronounced dead on the scene. Authorities still have not determined the reason for the crash, or whether any controlled substances were involved.
Both the bus driver and the single passenger were seriously injured, but both are in stable condition. Local residents have been fast to criticize the road where the accident happened, stating that Roslyn Road has dangerous curves which can contribute to accidents like this one. Residents also criticize the lack of any stoplights for 25 blocks along the stretch of road, stating that drivers speed recklessly along the highway, and that authorities need to increase enforcement to prevent collisions like this one. A spokesperson for Coach USA stated that the company is still at the scene conducting its own investigations into the crash, and that the tour bus company continues to put safety first.
