The second of two summer exhibits will be opening at the Bridgehampton Historical Society’s Corwith House on Friday, July 13th, at 5pm.
This exhibit celebrates local men who went to sea to hunt whales, most of whom came back to farm. Using excerpts from whaling logs, art work by Claus Hoie, furniture once belonging to whaling captains, scrimshaw, and exotic mementos brought back from around the world, the danger, excitement and rewards of hunting the whale is revealed.
The exhibit will remain on display Monday through Saturday, 10am – 2pm, until October 1st. For more information call 631.537.1088, email bhhs@optonline.net, or visit www.bridgehamptonhistoricalsociety.org.
