The Bridgehampton Museum is proud offer the 2nd year of their annual scholarship award opportunity for high school seniors with residency in the greater Bridgehampton area (Bridgehampton, Hay Ground, Sagaponack).
The Museum’s mission is to inspire the documentation, preservation and interpretation of the history, oral history and cultural traditions of Bridgehampton and its surrounding communities. . In line with this mission, we are continuously committed to collecting oral histories of our diverse community members. Expanding on this ongoing endeavor, high school seniors are invited to submit an oral history essay by March 15th to the Museum in PDF, MS Word or hard copy form. Each essay must be an account of a local memory between 1,000 and 1,500 words. The recounted memory must be by a greater Bridgehampton resident, or take place within the greater Bridgehampton area. Last year’s winner, Steven Hatgistavrou, wrote about Ted Damiecki, a lifelong resident of Bridgehampton, and his recollections of the 1960 World Series. Another submission recounted the experience of a Mexican immigrant’s arrival to Bridgehampton and what it was like growing-up in a rich agricultural area.
Essays must be hand-delivered, emailed, or post-marked no later than March 15, 2013. Winners will be selected by April 30th, will receive a check for $1,000 and have their submission published in the Museum’s annual Bridge Journal which is released each summer.
