Boltbus Long Island is making a change. They will be rebranding themselves as 7Bus, and will start offering additional stops to their routes. Boltbus first started serving Long Island six years ago. This month you will see bright green buses which say “7Bus” on the sides; the difference is that Boltbus Long Island is breaking away from the main Boltbus company. Transportation will be extended from New York City to Riverhead. Many of the same staff members will be involved with the new operation.
Speaking about the breakaway from the original company, Michael Schoolman, President of Boltbus Long Island, stated, “We had a really good relationship with them. We just wanted to offer more than their systems allowed, like commuter passes, intra-island travel and tourism packages. So we came out with our own brand.” Commuters and tourists can expect the same great amenities that old Boltbuses included, like free Wi-Fi, outlets, and leather seats, but now there will be additional stops and services. The new name refers to the average ticket price, which is rising to $7, but there will also be more low-rate seats available than there were in the past. The transition to 7Bus will be completed by June.
