The Eclectic Café Concert Series will present the 5-piece folk-Americana band Bobtown on Saturday, January 12th, 2013 at 8:30pm. The concert will be held at The Unitarian Universalist Society of South Suffolk, located at 28 Brentwood Road, Bay Shore, NY, 11706. Tickets are $10 in advance, $13 at the door. Advance tickets may be purchased at:http://www.eclecticcafe.org/.
The first thing people notice about Bobtown is the harmonies. Then the songwriting. And finally, the body count. Tales of ghosts, outlaws and working-class struggles permeate the worlds of these five songwriters. Although the band calls Brooklyn home, its members hail from all over the U.S. In their collective pasts, they have embodied all possible genres of music–from country, pop and rock to jazz, lounge and choral. In Bobtown, they have come together seamlessly to create distinctive original songs hailed as “unconventional and refreshing” in their approach to the folk tradition.
Bobtown was selected to perform at this November’s Northeast Regional Folk Alliance, both in the Susie Wollenberg DJ Showcase and in a Quad Showcase. The band has recorded two full-length CDs–their eponymous debut in 2010, and in 2012, Bobtown delivered the acclaimed Trouble I Wrought. Since its release in August, Trouble I Wrought has received international radio exposure, and it has appeared on multiple Cashbox Magazine Charts: at #8 on the "Roots Music Report’s Folk Top 50,” #4 on the “Roots/Folk Internet Airplay Chart” and #5 on the Roots Music’s "NY Roots Radio Airplay Chart".
"If you're looking for acoustic gothic-folk-Americana kissed with gorgeous
harmonies then look no further." - AMERICANA UK
"Bobtown seems to be evolving into a kind of pan-American collage in which
the wailing of tent revivals is sometimes overlaid with urban rhythms and
occasionally surreal lyrics, but always interesting harmonies.”
- BUTCH KARA, KZGM FM “KALEIDOSCOPE”
The Eclectic Café will feature an open mic from 7:30 to 8:30–participants should sign up by 7:30. Paid admission to this show by any first-timer entitles them to a free pass, good for a single free admission to one of the next three Eclectic Cafés–please mention it at the ticket table. The Eclectic Café is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization.
