Car crashes are reported every day on Long Island, but one thing you don’t hear about happening every day is a boat crash. A 31 foot Contender boat crashed into a bulkhead in Moriches at 5:30 this morning, injuring three fishermen who were aboard. The bulkhead was part of a waterfront home on Crystal Beach Boulevard.
Authorities still do not know what caused the boat to crash, but they have stated that alcohol does not seem to have been involved in the incident. Two of the three fishermen were tossed out of the boat and into the water when it struck the bulkhead. The third man, a 57 year old fisherman from Southampton, did not. He was however the most seriously injured of the three, and was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital. A 41 year old man from Center Moriches also was taken to the hospital for care. The third man, who was 36 years old and from Center Moriches as well, did not require treatment. The 41 year old fisherman was the one controlling the boat when the incident occurred. Authorities continue to investigate the incident in the hopes of determining the cause. There is no word on whether there is any damage to the beachfront property.
