Melville, NY - Maryhaven Center of Hope, member of Catholic Health Services of Long Island (CHSLI), fulfills their mission and that of CHSLI by educating, housing, and embracing the most vulnerable of populations. On July 17 2012, Reverend William F. Murphy, D.D., S.T.D., Bishop of the Diocese of Rockville Centre blessed the newly opened Angel Guardian Home, a setting ideally suited to adults in need of round the clock nursing care.
Angel Guardian Home is the 32nd group home overseen by Maryhaven’s divisions providing residential services certified and funded through the Office of Persons with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD). Graduates from the residential school, which admits children from five years of age through age 21, often move on to existing or newly developed homes in the Maryhaven continuum.
As the adult residential population ages their need for increased medical support necessitates a move to a skilled nursing facility. Likewise, throughout the state, a large developmentally disabled population resides in nursing homes who would otherwise be able to reside in OPWDD settings with the appropriate clinical supports.
Learning that the site now known as Angel Guardian was unoccupied, Maryhaven’s administration worked with the local office of OPWDD to screen applicants in nursing homes fromIslandParkto theHamptons. Twelve developmentally men and women in need of 24 hour nursing were offered placement. Two individuals residing in existing Maryhaven homes who were in need of a more supportive setting rounded out the 14 to be offered placements in this beautiful facility, which opened in June.
Maryhaven is pleased to more fully serve individuals throughout the life span, which the addition of Angel Guardian Home to its multi-service network makes possible. For more information contact us 631-474-4100.
