Legendary singer-songwriter Billy Joel has just made a surprise announcement that he will be performing an impromptu show to benefit charity tonight at The Paramount in Huntington. Currently the artist is busy rehearsing for his upcoming tour in Europe, so nobody expected him to announce a performance on Long Island. The concert on Wednesday will benefit Long Island Cares, a charity founded by singer-songerwiter Harry Chapin. Long Island Cares is one of the oldest and most active charities on the island, involved in food distribution to the poor and other efforts to help the less fortunate residents of Nassau and Suffolk counties.
Billy Joel has not performed on Long Island since 2002, when he played alongside Elton John in the Nassau Coliseum. It is a testament to Billy Joel’s popularity that the tickets for the concert sold out almost instantly. The Paramoun thas 1,555 seats. After the announcement, the seats sold out completely inside of just 15 minutes, and you can bet that any tickets that are going up for resale are going to sell for a pretty penny. Billy Joel is a native of Long Island, and will be honored especially this December at the Kennedy Center for his lifetime achievements in music.
