In the midst of what school authorities are calling "serious accusations", a Bellport High School teacher has been shut out of his classroom and alleved of his coaching duties while the investigation continues. Jonathan Elsalam has worked for the South Country School District since 2008. Not only is he the assistant football coach, but he is also a social studies teacher at Bellport High School. But, until the school disctrict finalizes their investigation into these undiclosed accusations, Elsalam is not allowed in the school.
When questioned about the accusations, or the investigation, many school personnel did not know enough to comment. However, Interim Superintendant Howard Koenig replied in a statement;
“Allegations like this are something we take very seriously. I have launched an internal investigation. Until that's completed, I can't comment on anything."Koenig also went on to say that the school has made no move towards involving any law enforcement at this time. Elsalam is also currently an employee of the school, but it is not clear if he is still being paid or not. Elsalam holds a B.A. in History and Secondary Education with a minor in Sociology from St. Joseph’s College, according to his online profiles. He has previously worked as an assistant football coach with the Longwood School District.
