And the animals look lovely! At least they will at this year's Barkfest 2012. The people at Save-A-Pet Animal Rescue and Adoption Center, Inc. and the Town of Brookhaven Animal Shelter would love for you to join them at this year's annual event. Included in the event is what is billed asLong Island’s largest pet costume contest and parade.
Barkfest 2012 will take place on October 28 at Holiday Inn Express, 3131 Nesconset Highway in Stony Brook, starting at 1 p.m. The event will be presented by Save-A-Pet, Holiday Inn Express and JVC Broadcasting. Last year more than 400 people from around Long Island enjoyed this free festive event. Of course, while the admission is free, there is also the option of being able to donate somethig to Save-A-Pet. All animals are welcome, but all dogs must be placed on a leash and all cats should be brought in by a carrier. All animals must be current with their vaccinations.
The highlight of the Barkfest 2012 event is to see the great costumes that many of the animals are wearing. Long Island's best-dressed animals on the planet strut their stuff for the Halloween season for a chance to win special prizes. Music and judging will be provided by JVC Broadcasting radio stations “Party 105” (105.3 FM), “La Fiesta” (98.5 FM), “My Country” (96.1 FM) and rock station WRCN (103.9 FM).
When talking about the event, John Caracciolo, President, JVC Broadcasting said, “JVC Broadcasting is proud to be involved in this festive holiday event. There is no better way to celebrate Halloween with your pet than participating in the parade and enjoying music from some of the top radio stations on Long Island.”
As much fun as the event is, it is also a fundraising opportunity for Save-a-Pet. For those who wish to enter their pet into the contest, please RSVP via email to LIBarkfest@gmail.com. Sponsorship and exhibit opportunities are also available. For more information, call (631) 471-8000.
