Last week two home invasions occurred just six hours and 22 miles apart. This seems to be more common than people think, as there have been dozens on Long Island in just the first three months of the year.
During the first of the home invasions, two men forced their way into a Floyd Street Apartment in Deer Park and pistol-whipped a woman who was visiting the home. The second occurred just after 8PM on Tuesday when three men with handguns forced their way into a Southaven Avenue home and confronted a resident inside.
Stolen in the first attack was a cell phone and in the second case, the invaders made off with an iPod, cigarettes, and cash. No arrests have been made and there are no suspects in either one of these cases or in many of the other home invasions that have occurred on Long Island.
Police do not believe that the two cases are linked, but they come after a string of home invasions in Suffolk and all over Long Island. Thirteen home invasions occurred in just the first three months of 2013 and three of them involved shootings, on fatally. Nassau County police have report seven armed home invasions this year. Dozens of home invasions occurred just the first part of the year. Hopefully, some arrests will be made and stop the invaders in their tracks.
