Even with what appears to be low rain amounts this season, it hasn’t stopped all the flowers from blooming. The 12th Annual Huntington Tulip Festival, taking place “rain or shine” on Sunday, May 6, from 11am – 4pm, at Hecksher Park will be proof of that.
Take part in this floral festival that is a free family-friendly event. In addition to the sight of more than 20,000 tulips of various colors, there will be children activity booths, face painting, performances, art exhibitions, demonstrations, cut tulips for sale that will benefit the Junior Welfare League of Huntington and more. A full brochure of the festival is available online.
The festival is presented by the Town of Huntington in cooperation with Astoria Federal Savings, Cablevision and other community agencies and businesses.
While there families may also enjoy a visit to the nearby Kissam House and Barn for the 28th Annual Sheep-to-Shawl Festival running from noon to 4pm. Free shuttle buses will be available between festivals and there is no admission charge. This festival is presented by the Huntington Historical Society and visitors will have the chance to view sheep and llamas. There will also be sheep shearing, the spinning and weavings of its fur as well as other entertainment.
This is going to be a very fun-filled weekend on Long Island.
