For the first time ever, Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center, Inc. will host a series of seminars throughout the year 2013. Each of the six seminars will address a different topic regarding Alzheimer’s Disease or other dementias.
On April 23, Dr. Frank M. Volz, Jr., Ph.D.LSP will present “Safe Swallowing with AD, A Matter of Life and …” at Somerset Gardens Senior Living, 150 Sunnyside Boulevard in Plainview from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. A Research Symposium featuring Dr. Peter Davies of Litwin-Zucker/Feinstein Institute, Dr. William E. Van Nostrand at Stony Brook University’s Department of Neurosurgery and Dr. Helene Beneveniste of Stony Brook University’s Department of Anesthesiology and Radiology will take place on May 11 from 10 a.m. to noon. The Symposium will be held at the Sheraton Long Island Hotel, 110 Motor Parkway in Hauppauge.
“An Affair to Remember: Sexuality and the Aged” will be held June 5 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at The Bristal at Massapequa, located at 400 County Line Road. Guest speaker will be Maureen Clinton, FACCS, LMFT of Suffolk County Community College, best known as “The Dr. Ruth of Suffolk.” In honor of World Alzheimer’s Day, the members of the ADRC Legal Advisory Committee will host an Ask the Attorney Telethon for World Alzheimer’s Day on September 21. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at Hofstra Law School, located at 121 Hofstra University in Hempstead.
On October 12, ADRC will host “A Drive Through the Ages: Safe Driving for Seniors,” presented by Certified Senior Advisor® Alan Goldman, from 10 a.m. to noon. ADRC is located at 45 Park Avenue in Bay Shore. Rounding out the series is “Alive Inside: The Story of Music & Memory,” with Dan Cohen, MSW, of the Music & Memory Project. This event will be held November 6 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Atria Senior Living at Kew Gardens, located at 117-01 84th Avenue.
