The third annual charitable grant to top Long Island music students has been awarded by Bethpage Federal Credit Union, a local business which participates in many different community projects. The five winners will have the chance to study and refine their art at the Usdan Center for the Creative and Performing Arts this summer. The arts center is the largest non-profit summer arts day camp in the country. Budget cuts have taken a toll on music programs at many schools, so this is a great opportunity for talented young musicians to excel.
The winners include Jordan Williams, a trumpet player and junior enrolled at Elwood John Glenn High School. Cara Jacbson is a junior at Half Hollow Hills East High School, and will be performing with the senior chorus and Select Chamber Choir. Abraham Pierre is an eight grader at Robert Moses Middle School, and will study tenor saxophone in a jazz ensemble. Joseph Tanay-Noto, a Commack High School junior, will study orchestra and chorus. Jordi Ariel Lotito from WT Clarke High School will also participate in orchestra and chorus. The Usdan Center for Creative and Performing Arts has been operating summer programs for young musicians since 1968, and offers students the chance to “Lose yourself for a summer, and find yourself for a lifetime.”
