Mt. Sinai, NY (September 5, 2012) - As the New York State Legislature is rocked by the worst sexual misconduct scandal in its history, Deborah McKee, the Republican and Conservative candidate for New York State Assembly in the 4th District wonders: Is Steve E. too much of a “Party Boy” in Albany?
After female members of his staff accused Democratic Brooklyn Assemblyman Vito Lopez of sexual harassment, Majority Speaker Sheldon Silver secretly approved a $103,000 taxpayer funded payoff in order to prevent a lawsuit.
Meanwhile, Assemblyman and Chair of the Committee on Governmental Operations Steve Englebright, who stated in his 2011 Annual Report that “government ethics, transparency, and efficiency” were top priorities in New York State, has remained deafeningly silent on the issue.
“As Chair of the Committee on Governmental Operations, which promotes ethics and transparency in government, Englebright is complacent in the irresponsible use of taxpayer funds to cover up a colleague’s alleged sexual assaults on female staffers,” said McKee.
“Why hasn’t a 20 year veteran of the Assembly from our district, and Chair of the Committee of Governmental Operations, called for the resignation of Vito Lopez and Sheldon Silver for the culture of corruption, abuse of power, and abuse of taxpayer dollars they’ve perpetuated in Albany? It’s because Englebright, who votes with City Dems 97.21% of the time, is just too cozy with them to effectively represent the 4th District.”
