The 2nd Annual North Fork Waiter Race is coming to Greenport on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 10 am. The Market, located at 44 Front Street, is hosting this unique event once again and encourages the entire North Fork to get involved. Proceeds will benefit health and wellness activities at Eastern Long Island Hospital. Spectators welcome.
The rules are simple. Waiters must reach a finish line by walking as fast as possible while balancing a stemmed glass on a serving tray. The contents of the glass will be provided by event sponsor, GuS soda, the maker of a low sugar beverage.
“As the owner of a health food market since 1987, I believe we can all be our ‘best’ through good nutrition and regular exercise,” says Shelley Scoggin. “I invite everyone to get involved just for the ‘health’ of it. We are very fortunate to have ELIH at the heart of our community, providing top-rated care.”
The Great Waiter Race is based on a traditional race that began in Paris in 1904 to recognize the hospitality industry. The concept has grown in popularity since its early beginnings. Races now take place in more than 750 cosmopolitan cities around the world. (www.waitersrace.com)
An entry fee of $50 is required and must be received no later than 5 pm on April 26, 2013. Participants are encouraged to raise additional funds. All monies raised will be divided between
Eastern Long Island Hospital and the winner of the race. The monitored race will kick-off at the ELIH Opportunity Shop on Main Street and end in front of The Market. For more information, contact The Market, 631.477.8803.
