One of the biggest concerns for most school administrators is the problem of bullying. Thousands of kids are under the pressure of bullying whether it is in physical, emotional, or cyber form. For many years, this problem has stymied educators as it does not seem to be going away. That does not mean that Long Island schools are just letting it happen. This coming weekend, on December 7th, approximately 1600 middle school students and teachers will visit LIU Post to hear messages about anti-bullying at the Our Kids in Action Annual Youth Conference.
During the event there will be several different speakers taking the stage to talk about bullying, their lives, and how to overcome. One such speaker is motivational speaker and former NFL player Keith Davis. After injury took him out of the NY Giants preseason, the Rose Bowl Champion devoted himself to speaking at schools about the importance of being a good person and good student.
A conference of this type is never short of motivation and big name talent to help draw middle school kids to hear the message of anti-bullying. Also included in this year's 12th Annual event is fourteen-year old singer, songwriter and Long Island native Lexxi Saal will perform at the conference for the second year in a row and address the crowd of students about her philanthropic project LexxiLoves.org.
The Conference will be held between 8:30 and 11 a.m. in LIU Post’s Pratt Recreation Center. Admission to the event is free of charge for Long Island middle school students and their teachers.
In today's world of chaos and hardship, especially within the family today, there is a great need to reach out to the middle school students in Long Island and teach them how to get along without resorting to bullying. Bullying has led to several deaths by suicide, and broken lives, because of the intensity of it.
The newest threat to students today is cyber bullying. This 12th Annual conference will also cover some aspects of this new bullying and help people understand how they can better protect themselves.
